About Us

We opened the first Works Bakery Café in 1988 in Manchester, Vermont, as an alternative to the fast food chains and their extreme focus on the bottom line?often at the expense of good food and a healthy planet. That's why we buy from family farmers whenever possible. We also go out of our way to avoid agribusiness and their pesticides, antibiotics, hormones and highly efficient (but highly stressful) CAFOs (Confined Animal Feeding Operations).
