South Congregational Church, 1066 South East Street in Amherst, and community partners will host a public reading and discussion of Frederick Douglass's "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" speech on July 4 at 3 p.m. on the South Amherst Common. UMass Professor Amilcar Shabazz will introduce and lead a discussion of the speech; readers will be members of the community. You can participate by volunteering to read 1-2 paragraphs of the speech.
