Description
Cutchins Programs for Children and Families will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the first floor of the Children’s Clinic. This expansion increases access to outpatient mental health care for children and families in Western Massachusetts. This expansion is part of the Help Us Grow (HUG) Campaign, which addresses the urgent and growing need for effective, integrative, trauma-informed mental health services during a growing mental health crisis.
Currently, due to the Children's Clinic's well-known expertise and success, more children are waiting for services than are receiving treatment. Founded by trauma expert Dr. Cynthia Monahan, author of Children and Trauma: A Guide for Parents and Professionals, the Children’s Clinic follows an “as long as it takes” model of care. This approach, now uncommon in healthcare, demonstrates Cutchins’ commitment to providing comprehensive, trauma-informed care tailored to each family’s needs. Through the HUG Campaign, Cutchins is expanding outpatient services to support better the emotional, developmental, and environmental needs of children and families.
Donations to the campaign will help provide access to:
• Neurofeedback: a brain-based therapy that helps children improve focus, manage emotions, and build resilience after trauma
• Therapeutic groups: supportive peer spaces where children and teens can build confidence, social skills, and connections. Caregivers can also meet, share experiences, and find comfort with others facing similar challenges.
• Occupational therapy: practical strategies from leading experts that help children manage their bodies, handle sensory challenges, and take part more fully at home and in school.
• Psychological assessments: thorough evaluations that help families and clinicians better understand a child’s strengths and needs, leading to more effective care. These services can take months to access in our area.
•The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics assessments: allow for a better understanding of the neurobiological impact of in utero and early childhood adverse events, as well as relational health on the child's development.
• Graduate internship training: preparing the next generation of children’s mental health clinicians to serve Western Massachusetts
• Additional clinicians: reducing wait times so more children and teens can start healing sooner
• Renovated, welcoming reception area: creating a calm and supportive first experience for families starting treatment
By bringing these integrative, mind-body trauma services together under one roof, Cutchins is not only helping children heal today while also changing life trajectories and strengthening the long-term well-being of families and the entire community of Western Massachusetts and beyond. Community members, donors, and partners are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 6 at 11:00 am at the Children’s Clinic, 17 Brewster Court, Northampton.
“We are looking forward to our Ribbon Cutting event here at the Children's Clinic on Monday, April 6th, at 11:00. We are eager to share our expanded space with colleagues and supporters of our work. The Clinic has long been known as a provider of high-quality mental health treatment for children and teens, especially those who have experienced Trauma. As the needs of our community and the therapeutic approaches available to us have evolved, so too has the Clinic. We are excited to share our additional floor of the Clinic, as well as the expanded Clinical services we will provide to the youth in our area. We truly believe that healing is possible, and are honored to serve our community in an even greater way.”
