DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Dates: Nov 7-Nov 28\, 2018 Alter/Altar will present a wide range of work by graduate students in the Department of Art at the University of Massachusetts\, Amherst. Making art implies altering\, literally and figuratively\, while an altar suggests a place for offering. This exhibition seeks to bring attention to the fact that as artists we are altering in the pursuit of offering\, and therefore as studio art graduate students we are working towards better knowing what form our "altars" might assume. This thematic play on words\, together with the gallery\, becomes a conduit through which we might consider existing parallels between fifteen individual art practices that utilize a diversity of media including painting\, video\, book making\, textiles\, and more.
