New Playreading Series presents LIVY IN THE GARDEN by Ellen Kaplan Directed by Hannah Sachs Thursday, February 18 - 7:30pm - Acting Studio 1 Livy is about to give birth ? and she?s terrified. She wants to flee her own body, but she is locked in her mother?s garden, waiting for the moment when the newborn will arrive. She cannot imagine herself as a mother, certainly not as the good mother she thinks she?s supposed to be. In a contemporary environment of fragmentation and isolation, women are often alienated from this primal experience; there is ambiguous archeological evidence (at which Livy scoffs) that birth was far more sacred and central in pre-history, and Livy?s companions open a pathway to that earlier world.
