Curator Shiri B. Sandler, U.S. director of the Auschwitz Jewish Center at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, presents a gallery talk in conjunction with the visiting exhibit "A Town Known as Auschwitz" (in our Brechner Gallery through March 27). The town of Oswiecim, Poland, has been known by different names, in different languages, at different times. Though it has a long and varied history, the town is notorious for one thing: Auschwitz. Yet for centuries prior to World War II, Jews and non-Jews lived side by side there. Discover the rich history of Oswiecim through photographs that trace the life of the town and its Jewish residents from the sixteenth century through the post-war period.
